About This Site
The Program exists to provide six hospital laboratories administrative and technical advice, consultative, educational and quality support services. The Program lends its expertise in the delivery of laboratory services consistent with best practices and established standards to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results. The mission of the Program is supportive of the missions of these participating hospitals.
The KRRRLP provides global quality assurance assistance and reviews proficiency testing program results to monitor laboratories’ performance level, accuracy and competency. With the development of Ontario Laboratory Accreditation, the Program maintains a process of systematic examinations to assess the Laboratories and act as an external quality auditor.

Aims of the KRRRLP
Since its incorporation in 1992, the Kenora-Rainy River Regional Laboratory Program has strived to provide assistance to six (6) hospitals in the following.
Standardization:
- Assist in the research and development, coordination, recommendation and implementation of standardized manuals; equipment; reagents; methods; and policies, where possible.
- Identify areas of cost reduction (possible or potential) including securing group contracts for equipment and reagents, etc.
Regional Representation:
- Actively participate in regional and provincial laboratory endeavors and other such complementary purposes not inconsistent with the Goals and Objectives.
Regional Quality Management System:
- Facilitate continuous quality improvement using quality management principles in all laboratory processes in the interest of patient care. Maintain a comprehensive audit system of comparative data that identifies area requiring further investigation or education.
Education:
- Design and provide educational activities as a regional commitment to lifelong learning. Besides the annual Fall Symposium continue to provide presentations and develop Newsletters to share information with Clinicians, Laboratory and non-Laboratory professionals.
Regional Manuals:
- Provide a forum for strategic planning, new initiatives and addressing complex issues to meet the clinical needs and established goals in each facility.
Rationalization of Services:
- To design and provide continuing education to all laboratory Technologists.
